It is not surprising because, apart from being a school with high academic excellence, the school has the advantage of being in the most populated city in Nigeria.

Studying at LASU is a dream come true, especially for students living in Lagos. However, this comes with the challenge of gaining admission, especially to highly competitive courses with few admission slots.

In this post, I will guide you on how to gain admission to Lagos State University and calculate your aggregate score using your O’level results and JAMB score.

The following are tips to gaining admission to the Lagos State University;

  1. Apply With the Right JAMB Score
  2. Have the Correct Subject Combination
  3. Calculate Your Aggregate Score
  4. Apply for the Post UTME
  5. Stay Updated on LASU News

1. Apply With the Right JAMB Score

Applying with a suitable JAMB score for the course you’re applying to study is the first step to gaining admission to the university.

Your JAMB score accounts for 50% of your aggregate score, which invariably means that the higher your UTME score is, the higher your chances of gaining admission.

Competitive courses like Law, Pharmacy, Medicine, etc., usually have high cut-off marks, and you need a good score in your JAMB to stand a chance of admission.

Over and over, I see students make the mistake of applying for courses unsuitable for their UTME score. It usually leads to admission denial or getting admission to another course.

I advise you to decide on the course to study based on your performance at the Joint Matriculation Board exam.

If you’re unsure of your JAMB score, let me know the course you’re applying to, and I will guide you.

2. Have the Correct Subject Combination

Subject combinations are the subjects in your O’level results and the subjects you took in the UTME exams.

To gain admission to a university in Nigeria, you must have a minimum of five (5) credit passes in relevant subjects in your O’level (WAEC, NABTEB or NECO). Also, choosing the correct four (4) subjects in your JAMB is required.

Over the years, I have encountered students who were denied admission because they were applying for courses they were unqualified for due to having the right subject combination.

Ensure you make your verifications before applying for the Post UTME. If you need further guidance, let me know in the comments.

3. Calculate Your Aggregate Score

LASU aggregate score is calculated using the JAMB and O’level result grades and accounts for 50% of the aggregate score each.

Unlike other schools like UNILAG, the university does not conduct Post UTME screening exams. Admission is based on only your JAMB and O’level results.

Now, here is how you can do the calculation;

For JAMB, you divide your score by 8 to get 50%.

Then, for the O’level, the table below shows the grade points;

GradePoints
A110
A29
B3, A3 (B3)8
C47
C56
C65
LASU O’level grade point

4. Apply for the Post UTME

After verifying your JAMB score and O’level are in order, the next step would be for you to apply for the Post UTME.

The application is done online at the Lagos State University Post UTME portal. You can do the application online yourself or at a computer centre.

The following are the application requirements;

  • Local Government of Origin Certificate
  • O’level Results (WAEC, NECO or NABTEB)
  • Passport Photograph
  • Minimum of 195 JAMB Score
  • Two Thousand naira (₦2,000)
  • Sixteen (16) years by October

In addition, you must upload your O’level result on the JAMB CAPS to be considered for admission.

5. Stay Updated on LASU News

Staying updated on LASU Post UTME news is necessary to gain admission to the school. They say information is power.

You must join online communities like Facebook and WhatsApp groups for LASU students and aspirants.

Here, you will get information about registration dates and deadlines, admission cut-off marks, etc.

However, ensure that whatever group you join is relevant to achieving your dream of admission.

Conclusion

Studying at Lagos State University requires a high JAMB score and good O’level result grades.

By following these tips and putting in the necessary effort, you can increase your chances of admission to Lagos State University and embark on a fulfilling academic journey.
