UNILAG Aggregate Score

Before we go into how you can do well in the screening exam, I want to teach you how to calculate your aggregate score, determining whether you get admission to the course you’re applying to study.

UNILAG aggregator score is calculated by the following;

  1. JAMB (50): Divide your UTME score by 8. It will give you a score out of 50.
  2. Post UTME (30%): This is your score in the UNILAG post-UTME exam.
  3. O’level Results (20%): Assign grade points to your O’Level results based on the following scale:
    • A1: 4 points
    • B2: 3.6 points
    • B3: 3.2 points
    • C4: 2.8 points
    • C5: 2.4 points
    • C6: 2.0 points
  4. Calculate your total O’Level grade points: Multiply the grade points of each relevant subject.
  5. Calculate your aggregate score: Add your UTME score, Post-UTME score, and total O’Level grade points together.

Example:

ParameterCalculation
JAMB290/8 = 36.25
Post UTME23/30 = 23
O’level15/20 = 15
Total74.25

How to Pass UNILAG Post UTME

Here are the practical steps to passing the UNILAG Post UTME exam and gaining admission to the school;

  1. Determine your Admission Chances
  2. Know the Post UTME Format
  3. Begin Studying for the Exam
  4. Practice Past Questions
  5. Stay Updated on the Post UTME
  6. Meet the Departmental Cut-Off Mark

1. Determine your Admission Chances

The first step to gaining admission is to determine your admission chances using your JAMB score and the course you’re applying to as criteria.

The challenge is that many students apply for most in-demand courses with low JAMB scores. For example, I often come across students who apply for Medicine and Surgery with a UTME score below 260.

Of course, there is no chance you will get admission because most UNILAG aspirants for Medicine and Surgery get above 300+ as their JAMB score.

As you have seen earlier, your UTME score accounts for 50% of your aggregate score. A low score would affect your admission chances, even with an excellent O’level result or a high post-UTME score.

If you’re unsure of your admission chances, let me know your JAMB score and the course you’re applying to to get the best advice.

I want you to know that the higher your JAMB score, the higher your chances of admission.

In addition, ensure you have the correct JAMB and O’level subject combination for the course you’re applying to study.

2. Know the Post UTME Format

Knowing the Post UTME format is essential to excelling in your exam. You’d already have to be familiar with the format of the questions and the number of questions.

Many years ago, I sat for the Post UTME exam without knowing the format. Yes, it affected me, and as you may have guessed, I did not gain admission.

The UNILAG Post UTME screening test is a computer-based test (CBT) like the JAMB examination. It comprises forty (40) questions for thirty (30 minutes).

Here is a breakdown of the subject combination;

SubjectsNumber of Questions
English Language15
Mathematics15
General Paper10
Total40
A breakdown of the UNILAG Post UTME question format.

The general paper questions are about UNILAG. I will give you more information about it shortly. Also, questions may be asked from your JAMB subject combination.

3. Begin Studying for the exam

The best time to start your exam preparation was yesterday; today is the second-best time to begin studying.

The fact is that your examination performance is going to reflect the commitment and hard work you put into studying.

I advise you to take your exam preparations seriously, as it is the last step to gaining admission for the course you wish to study at UNILAG.

For the screening test, you can use your secondary school textbooks, JAMB textbooks, and online materials. There is no need for you to purchase any unique study materials.

4. Practice Past Questions

Practising past questions is essential to scoring high in the screening examination. You must ensure you get the past question booklet, assuming you are not able to get it in softcopy.

This study material is highly recommended because it gives you a better understanding of the Post UTME format.

As I mentioned earlier, the general paper is part of the exam. It is these questions that will give you a better understanding of the structure of this kind of question.

Also, it would serve as a guide to determine your level of preparation. You will know you’re prepared for the test when you can answer the past questions correctly.

Now, one mistake you must never make is trying to cram the answers to past questions. It is not going to work out well for you. Ensure you use it as a guide for your studies.

5. Stay Updated on the Post UTME

Staying updated on social media about UNILAG-related news is paramount. It is a medium to interact with other aspirants and get timely updates about the Post UTME.

I advise you to join UNILAG Facebook and WhatsApp groups to get this kind of information. Also, you can visit the official university website from time to time to get first-hand information.

Ensure you know essential dates like;

  • Post UTME registration deadline
  • Screening test dates and schedule
  • Release of the Post JAMB result
  • Release of departmental cut-off marks
  • Admission list release date
  • Resumption date.

6. Meet the Departmental Cut-Off Mark

Meeting the departmental cut-off mark is the last step to gaining admission to UNILAG. Every department sets its minimum required cut-off mark depending on the performance of students.

This score is not fixed as it changes every year based on the aggregate scores of students. For example, the Mass Communication cut-off mark can be set at 68. This means that all those who got an aggregate score of 68 or above would be admitted to the department.

It is the reason why I said at the beginning of this article that the higher your aggregate score, the higher your chances of gaining admission.

Conclusion

Passing the UNILAG Post UTME and securing admission is a significant milestone in your academic journey. It requires dedication, strategic preparation, and a focused approach.

By following the tips outlined in this article, you can significantly increase your chances of success.

Remember to stay consistent with your studies, practice past questions, understand the exam format, and seek guidance from those who have been through the process. With hard work and determination, you can achieve your goal of gaining admission to UNILAG.
