How to Pass University of Ibadan (UI) Post UTME Exam 2025

The University of Ibadan (UI) is one of Nigeria’s top-ranking and prestigious universities where students can study all courses. UI is the perfect dream school for every Nigerian student.

In 2016, I applied to study Medical Laboratory Science at UI, but unfortunately, I could not secure admission because of my low aggregate score.

The thing about UI is that there are limited admission slots because the process is highly regulated. UI sticks to theirs, unlike other schools that exceed the recommended admission quota.

It is a good thing and, simultaneously, a challenge for aspirants because many students with high JAMB scores struggle to get admitted to the university. This is why it is not advisable to choose UI if your JAMB score is low.

One reason why I highly recommend UI to students is because admission is based on merit. If you meet the cut-off mark, you will indeed be admitted.

In this post, I will guide you from my experience on how you can pass the UI Post UTME and gain admission to the course of your choice. Let me know if you have any questions at the end of this post.

UI Aggregate Score

First, I will show you how to calculate your UI aggregate score to determine the cut-off mark for each course.

UI uses JAMB and Post UTME to calculate aggregate scores. O’level results are not included.

The University of Ibadan admission aggregate score is calculated by dividing your JAMB score by eight (8) and Post UTME score by two (2).

For example, Chinyere is applying to Study Mass Communication with a JAMB score of 257 and a Post UTME score of 68.

Here is how we can calculate her aggregate score;

ParameterScoreCalculation
JAMB Score257257/8 = 32.13
Post UTME Score6868/2 = 34
Aggregate Score32.13 + 3466.13

Chinyere aggregate score is 66.13. Assuming the cut-off mark is 65, she will automatically be admitted to the Department of Mass Communication.

Let me know if you still have any questions about calculating your aggregate score. Now, let’s go to the article proper.

Post UTME Subject Combination

The UI Post UTME subject combination is the same as your JAMB subjects. There are no differences with what you took in your UTME exams.

For example, a student applying to Nursing Science will write the following subjects in their screening test;

  • Use of English
  • Physics
  • Biology
  • Chemistry

The UI Post UTME exam comprises one hundred (100) questions for ninety (90) minutes. Also, the exam is a computer-based test with option A-E.

How to Pass UI Post UTME Exam

Here are effective strategies I have gathered over the years on how you can pass the University of Ibadan (UI) Post UTME exam and gain admission;

  1. Have the Correct JAMB & O’level Subject Combination
  2. Determine Your Admission Chances Using Your JAMB Score
  3. Start Preparing for the Post UTME Using the Syllabus
  4. Practice Past Questions
  5. Join Social Media Groups for Information

1. Have the Correct JAMB & O’level Subject Combination

Applying to the University of Ibadan with the correct JAMB and O’level subject combination is the first requirement for admission to the school. A wrong subject combination would lead to admission disqualification.

Many students make the mistake of applying to courses with the wrong subject combination. Every course at UI has a JAMB and O’level subject combination. By O’level, I mean WAEC or NECO subjects.

Here is a breakdown of the subject combination;

  • Four (4) JAMB subjects
  • Credit Passes in necessary five (5) subjects

Let me know in the comment if you need assistance figuring out the subject combination for the course you’re applying to study.

2. Determine Your Admission Chances Using Your JAMB Score

JAMB score is an essential factor in determining your admission chances. A high UTME score directly means a higher chance of gaining admission.

If you are applying for highly competitive courses, you need to get a JAMB score that is high enough to stand a chance.

For example, if you’re applying to Law, you need a JAMB score above 300+ to stand an excellent chance for admission.

I know you’d say my score is low, but I will make it up for the post-UTME. Well, it doesn’t always work like that since applicants with high UTME scores would equally perform excellently in the Post UTME.

Let me know using the comment if you’re unsure if your UTME score can help you get the course you want to study at UI. I will give you the best advice.

3. Start Preparing for the Post UTME Using the Syllabus

The best time to study for your Post UTME is right now. Your performance in the screening test will be determined by the efforts you put in your studies.

Using the Post UTME syllabus will give you an edge in your preparations. I know the question on your mind right now is, what is the syllabus, and how can you get it?

The UI Post UTME syllabus is the same as the JAMB syllabus. It is like preparing for the UTME exams again, but only this time, you’d tackle more complex questions with fewer questions (100 in number).

There is no need for you to get extra textbooks for the test. Use your JAMB study materials to prepare yourself.

One of the best strategies is to create a personal study timetable where you study at least one subject daily and ensure consistency.

4. Practice Past Questions

Practicing past questions is an effective strategy to prepare for the Post UTME examination. It will serve as a guide to determine your level of preparation.

Past questions are a compilation of previous exam questions spanning over ten (10) years. Its purpose is to get you familiar with how UI sets their questions.

You’d be more confident sitting for the examination when you practice past questions. Do not make the mistake of cramming the questions; instead, try to understand the reason behind each correct answer.

You can get the past questions in soft and hard copy. But, I advise you to get the hard copy as it is a worthy investment.

Join Social Media Groups for Information

Infromation, they say, is power, and this also applies to the UI Post UTME exam. Getting timely information is necessary to gain admission to the premier university.

Join UI Facebook and WhatsApp groups to get all the information about university admission on these forums. You’ll know when the Post UTME form is out, the examination date, and the admission list will be released.
